When a big sale event comes around, the pillow you've been eyeing for months or the massage gun sitting in your cart suddenly feels urgent. The trouble is that a lower price doesn't make something fit you. A pillow at the wrong height or a ring in the wrong size tends to end up in a closet, however little you paid for it.

This guide sorts recovery and sleep gear by one idea: things where the model number decides are good candidates to buy on sale, and things that have to fit your body are worth measuring or trying first. Product details here are based on manufacturer specifications and published product information. We have not used or tested these products ourselves.

If you're shopping for someone else, our gift guide by recipient is organized around who you're buying for. This article is about gear for yourself.

Sale dates this seasonShopping for sleep gadgets or recovery gear during Black Friday and Cyber Monday? This year's calendar dates are Black Friday (November 27) through Cyber Monday (November 30). Which products are included, and how much they are reduced, differs from item to item and can change while the sale is running. Check the current price, availability, and whether an item is part of the sale on its Amazon product page before you buy. The rest of this guide is how we would decide which recovery deals are worth it, and it does not depend on the dates.Dates are based on the 2026 U.S. calendar; retailer sale windows may start earlier or run longer.

The One Question That Sorts Sale-Season Purchases

Before looking at any price, ask: is this decided by a model number, or by my body?

Here's the three-step version we use for every item in this guide:

  1. Do I need it right now? If a cold bedroom or dry air is waking you up tonight, the sale calendar shouldn't decide when you fix it. (More in the gray zone section below.)
  2. Is the model already decided? If you know the exact model and generation, and it doesn't need to match your body, a sale is a reasonable time to buy it.
  3. If not, what would decide it? For a pillow, that's your sleep position. For compression boots, your height and inseam. For a smart ring, a sizing kit worn for a full day. Do that step first.

"It's cheaper this week" comes after all three: a good reason to buy something you've chosen, and a weak reason to choose it.

Buy on Sale: Sleep Gadgets and Recovery Gear Where the Model Number Decides

These are consumables, or devices that work the same for anyone once you've picked the model. The only decision is which one, and you can make it before the sale starts.

Compact Massage Guns: Theragun Mini 3rd Gen and Hypervolt Go 3

With massage guns, decide the generation as well as the model. Amazon search results can show older versions next to current ones, so read the listing title before you buy.

According to Therabody, the Theragun Mini 3rd Gen weighs 0.40 kg, has three speeds, a stated battery life of 150 minutes, and comes with three attachments (Dampener, Standard Ball, and Thumb). It also has a travel lock to keep it from switching on in a bag. Therabody lists a one-year warranty.

The Hypervolt Go 3 from Hyperice weighs 1.6 pounds, according to the manufacturer, with five speeds, up to four hours of battery, two heads (Flat and Wedge), USB-C charging, and a carrying case. Hyperice lists it at 55 dB.

The Mini is smaller and lighter; the Go 3 has more speeds and a longer stated battery. Don't use either on an injured or painful area, and if you have a medical condition, talk to a doctor first.

Sound Machines: LectroFan EVO and Yogasleep Dohm Classic

The real decision here is the type of sound: electronic sounds played through a speaker, or a real fan. Once you've picked the type, the model follows.

The LectroFan EVO from Adaptive Sound Technologies plays fan sounds, white, pink, and brown noise variations, and ocean surf sounds, according to the manufacturer. It also has an audio jack for connecting a speaker, a pillow speaker, or headphones, and comes with a one-year warranty.

The Yogasleep Dohm Classic makes its sound with an actual fan inside. Yogasleep lists two speeds, and you adjust the tone by twisting the cap and collar. It's built for 120V outlets in the U.S. and Canada.

If you're not sure which type you'd prefer, our light-sleeper sound machine comparison explains the difference. If you'll be traveling, see portable sound machines for hotel rooms instead, since neither of these runs on a battery.

Earplugs and Sleep Earbuds: Mack's, Loop Dream, Soundcore Sleep A30

Disposable foam earplugs are the textbook sale purchase: if you already use them, buying a larger pack of the same ones carries little risk. Mack's Ultra Soft foam earplugs come in several pack sizes, and Mack's product page lists them at an NRR of 33.

Loop Dream and the Soundcore Sleep A30 are fixed models too, but ears differ, so fit is the one thing a model number can't settle. Loop describes the Dream as designed for side sleepers and for reducing noise. Soundcore says the Sleep A30 combines active noise cancellation aimed at lower sounds with passive noise isolation and snore-masking sounds. Soundcore's U.S. page lists four ear wings, five silicone ear tips, and three foam ear tips in the box, and a stated seven hours of playback with ANC on over Bluetooth at 50% volume. Box contents and battery figures can differ by version, so check the listing.

Because fit varies, check the return window on the Amazon listing before you buy either one. For a closer look at which approach suits a snoring partner, see sleep earbuds vs. earplugs for a snoring partner.

Sleep Masks: Manta Sleep Mask

The Manta Sleep Mask has removable eye cups that slide along the strap, so you can position them for your face. Manta says it's machine washable (cold water, in a laundry bag) and describes it as 100% blackout; that's the manufacturer's wording, and how dark it gets depends on your face shape. Since the eye cups adjust, it's closer to a fixed-model purchase than most masks. For a broader look at blocking light, see blackout curtains vs. sleep masks.

Sunrise Alarm Clocks: Hatch Restore 3

The current Restore is the Hatch Restore 3, so the model is easy to pin down. The decision to make beforehand is whether you want Hatch's paid membership, Hatch+. Hatch says 30 days of Hatch+ are included with the purchase; after that, decide whether the features you use need it. Setup is done through Hatch's app. To compare it with other wake-up lights, see our sunrise alarm clock comparison.

Refills and Replacement Parts for Gear You Already Own

Humidifier filters, replacement ear tips, mask straps, and similar parts are good sale-season buys, with one rule: order the exact replacement for the model you own. Save experiments with a new type of filter or tips for another time. We don't link specific parts here, because the right one depends on your model.

Wait (or Measure First): Gear That Has to Fit Your Body

"Wait" doesn't mean "don't buy this on sale." It means do the measuring or trying now, narrow it down to one option, and then use the sale only to check the price. The regret with these items is rarely about what you paid. It's about size, height, or firmness.

Pillows: Coop Original Adjustable Pillow

The right pillow height depends largely on how you sleep: side sleepers often need more height than back sleepers. The Coop Original Adjustable Pillow lets you add or remove fill to change its height and firmness, and it comes with extra fill. It's sold in Classic, Crescent, and Cut-Out shapes and in Queen and King sizes, and it's machine washable. That makes it a reasonable option if you haven't settled on a height. On Amazon the brand is listed as Coop Home Goods; the company's own site now uses the name Coop Sleep Goods.

Coop offers a 100-night trial when you buy directly from the company. That's a direct-purchase term. If you buy on Amazon, check the return policy on that listing.

Mattress Toppers: ViscoSoft Active Cooling

Measure before you shop: your mattress size, and how much thickness you want to add. According to ViscoSoft, the ViscoSoft Active Cooling topper is 4 inches thick in two layers: 2 inches of copper-infused memory foam over 2 inches of high-density foam. Firmness is personal, so read how the listing describes it. If you share a bed and only one of you sleeps hot, see cooling only one side of the bed.

Weighted Blankets: Bearaby Napper

Bearaby's own guidance is to choose a blanket weight based on your body weight, and to start with shorter periods for the first few days while you get used to it. That's the step to take before a sale: work out the weight you'd need using Bearaby's guidance. On Amazon, Bearaby's hand-knit weighted blankets appear under names such as Cotton Hand-Knit; Napper is the name Bearaby uses for this knit style, so check the listing for the exact weight and size. Some people find weighted blankets calming, but research on sleep and anxiety is mixed. See what the research says about weighted blankets.

Compression Boots: Hyperice Normatec 3 Legs

The Hyperice Normatec 3 Legs come in Short, Standard, and Tall. Hyperice says to choose using your inseam and height on its size chart, and to pick the smaller size if you fall between two. Measure your inseam before the sale, not during it. If you haven't decided between boots and a massage gun, see massage gun vs. compression boots. If you have a blood flow or heart condition, or you're pregnant, talk to a doctor before using them; Hyperice itself says to refer to your doctor's guidance when in doubt.

Smart Rings: Oura Ring — Order the Sizing Kit First

This is the most concrete advice in this guide: if a smart ring is on your list, get the sizing kit before the sale, not during it.

According to Oura's support pages, Oura sizes are slightly different from standard ring sizes and come in whole sizes only. Oura recommends wearing the sizer for a full day, including while you sleep, and says the index finger gives the most accurate fit. If you start that process once the sale begins, you may not have your size in time.

More than one generation of the Oura Ring is sold on Amazon, and sizing kits are sold separately for specific generations. Sizes can differ between generations, so order the kit that matches the ring you plan to buy.

Oura also requires a paid membership for its full insights, and says new members get their first month included. Factor that in before deciding. To compare it with a watch, see Oura Ring vs. Apple Watch for sleep.

Oura Ring — size first, then the ring. Before you buy: choose the sizing kit for the generation you plan to buy, and wear it through a full day and night.

Chair Massage Cushions and Foot Massagers: Snailax Chair Pads and Friends

A Snailax seat cushion-style massage chair pad straps onto a chair, so the chair matters as much as the pad. Check your backrest height, the space between the armrests, and whether the back is mesh. Snailax's chair pads differ in coverage and features, so compare listings. We go through the fit check in detail in checking chair fit for a back massager.

Foot massagers depend on your shoe size and the height of your instep. We don't link a specific model here; see fit tips for heated foot massagers before you choose.

The Gray Zone: When You Need It Now

Some things shouldn't wait for any sale.

Heat. If your bedroom is cold now, don't spend weeks sleeping in it to save on a heater. Choose by room size, noise, and safety features such as tip-over shutoff, and look at price last. See quiet space heaters for bedrooms.

Dry air. If a dry throat is waking you up, the same applies. See quiet bedroom humidifiers.

A sale is useful when you can afford to wait. It isn't a reason to put up with a problem that's costing you sleep tonight.

Pre-Sale Checklist: Seven Things to Do Before Prices Change

Who This Approach Isn't For

FAQ

What should I buy on sale for better sleep?

Start with consumables you already use and devices whose model you've already chosen: earplugs, replacement parts, a sound machine, or a sunrise alarm.

Are sleep gadgets worth buying during holiday sales?

They can be, when you've already decided on the exact model. Gadgets that depend on fit, like sleep earbuds or a smart ring, are worth checking first: look at the return window, and for a ring, get your size before the sale.

Should I wait for a sale to buy an Oura Ring?

Sizing matters more than timing. Order the sizing kit for the generation you plan to buy, wear it for a full day and night, and factor in the membership. Once you know your size, a sale is just a chance to check the price.

Is it worth buying compression boots on sale?

It can be, if you've measured your inseam and height against the manufacturer's size chart and know how you'll use them. If you're still choosing between boots and a massage gun, settle that first.

A Note on Health and Safety

This article is for general information and isn't medical advice. Massage, compression, and heating devices aren't right for everyone. Talk to a doctor before using one if you have an injury, a blood flow or heart condition, a pacemaker or other implanted medical device, or if you're pregnant. If you have ongoing insomnia, loud snoring, or night sweats, talk to a doctor rather than relying on bedroom gear.

The Bottom Line: Decide First, Then Check the Price

The people who get the most out of a sale are the ones who already know what they're buying. Before prices change, do three things: count what's running low, measure what has to fit, and decide what you're skipping this time. Then use the sale for what it's good at, which is checking the price on something you've already chosen.

If a smart ring is on your list, order the sizing kit before you shop. For everything else, go back to the checklist above.

This article is for general informational purposes only and is not medical advice. If you have a medical condition, an injury, or ongoing trouble sleeping, talk to a qualified healthcare professional before using massage, compression, or heating devices.
